One of the geographically closest lands to New Zealand proved to be one of the the furthest apart from a cultural perspective. We travelled north in company with the Western Pacific Rally group with ten other yachts and were treated to trading, tribal dances, remote villages, and the bizarre custom of jumping to ground with vines attached around ones ankles, where the concept of bunny jumping came from. While the water was greener and murkier (perfect home and habitat for the resident dugongs), Vanuatu was all about exploring the cultural richness of the country and experiencing life very much off the beaten path.
