John and I met, bought a boat, and sailed away together within a six month timespan between meeting and moving. That first year took us on a shakedown cruise onboard Ātea to Fiji and Tonga as a test to see if both boat and partnership could withstand the arduous challenges of a life confined. We returned to New Zealand three weeks before the delivery of my first child, Braca. Clearly both boat and partnership had survived the test.
